
Richard (Dick) S. Larsen
February 21, 1923 ~ April 6, 2012
Dick Larsen, 89, of Sunset, Utah, passed away at the George E. Whalen Veteran's Home on April 6, 2012, from Parkinson's Disease. The youngest of five children, he was born on February 21, 1923 in Brigham City to Peter LeRoy & Lulu Merle Stratton Larsen. His parents passed away when he was 12, after which he lived with his Aunt Leah, Uncle Mack, and cousin Enid Fishburn. In 1941, he graduated from Box Elder High School where he was successful in multiple sports, competing in varsity baseball, football, and basketball; he received a gold watch for Outstanding Overall Athlete during his senior year.
He married Thelma Hadfield in 1943 and they subsequently divorced. They had three daughters: Vicki Beecher, Kathy (Lindsay) Curtis and Carol Ann (Mike) Lorscheider. In June 1963, Dick married Carol Glismann. They had one son Scott (Anneke). He has 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He had several dogs, which were also an important part of his life.
During World War II, Dick served in the US Navy aboard the USS Intrepid. He received an Honorable Discharge and the Purple Heart. After his military service, he owned Peach City Ice Cream in Brigham City for four years. He later worked at Hill AFB, Clark AFB, Vandenberg, Thiokol, Boeing Plant 77, and MSI. His jobs included Mechanic and Industrial Engineer, but spent the last 25 years of his career in the field Quality Control. His work took him internationally, travelling to the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, and Spain. He and Carol lived in Taiwan for two years. Dick retired from Hill AFB in 1988.
Dick loved the outdoors, spending a great deal of time hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping, including many trailer-trips with the family. Known as "Mr. Larsen", he was an iconic figure in Troop 78 of Clearfield for 32 years, serving as Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Member, and District Advancement Chairman. He received both the Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. He enjoyed teaching the boys and helping them advance through the Boy Scout Program; he helped 61 young men earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He led the boys on over 200 overnight campouts and 10 week-long summer Camps, including two summer camps that incorporated 50 mile hikes. His last campout was in 2002 at the age of 79.
He is survived by his wife, as well as his son, daughters, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his four siblings, his daughter Vicki, and one grandson.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Aides at George E. Whalen Veteran's Care and Applegate Hospice for their loving care this past year. In addition, Dick's children want to express their deep appreciation to Carol for her loving devotion during their 49 years of marriage, especially for the wonderful care and attention required the past few years.

A Memorial Service will be held May 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W. , Roy, UT., with visitation at 10:00 a.m., graveside service with Military Honors will be at Brigham City, UT,
following the memorial service
